An activity filled night for children
and adults was held in Belton on the square on the night of
Saturday, December 5 at
6:00 P.M. at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Downtown Belton.
More than 150 people turned out for the tree lighting. Christmas Carols will be performed by Marshall Primary students.
Singer Loretta Holloway entertained everyone as well as Brian Sprague
from Melbourne, Australia who was visiting friends in the area. Horse-drawn carriage rides will be on the square from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.
The Belton Area Museum's Christmas Wreath
Auction was held from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the art
center.
At the Art Center, a new exhibit was opened for
the adults and children visited with
Santa and had their photo taken. The children also enjoyed cookies and hot chocolate.
Merchants located on the square were also open
after normal hours
for holiday shopping.
Nancy's Fancies on the square in Belton was the
first-place winner of the window decorating contest.

The Belton Children's Christmas Parade was
held downtown Belton on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 3:00 pm on Main
Street. Thousands of
children and
adults came to see bands playing, floats, cars, etc. including
the annual visit by Santa Claus. People lined both sides of the
street to see more than 40 entries in the parade.
Groups (bands, churches, dancers,
service organizations, etc.) participated with floats, cars,
etc. Lineup for the parade took place on North Main Street near the
Farmer's Market. Awards were named in categories as listed below.

Leading the 2009 parade were the Grand
Marshalls Betsy and Tommy Chapman. Santa Claus was on hand for the
2009 Parade and riding on the
Belton Fire Truck.
It has become traditional to light the star on
the Standpipe in the evening following the Christmas Parade.
The sponsors of the parade expressed their
thanks to all participants and volunteers for a great event. They
were especially pleased to have so many churches enter the parade and so
many fantastic floats!
